RogueJack is five years old. That feels like a long time to still be asking a deck of cards to help us survive a dungeon, but here we are.
Version 1.8.0 is here with a batch of improvements gathered from recent builds, player feedback, and the never-ending process of making sure the game does not lose your run—or freeze when you try to buy the thing that keeps the ads away.
What is new
The CRT effect is brand new and toggleable, so you can choose how much retro screen fuzz you want between yourself and the dungeon. Android compatibility has also been updated for Android 16 and API level 36.
We fixed the ad-free purchase screen freezing or becoming stuck, and improved purchase and restore handling for cancellations, errors, pending purchases, and timeouts. In other words, the shop should now be considerably less haunted.
Better runs and smoother movement
- Added run recovery when the app closes or is removed from memory. Runs resume from the beginning of the current floor.
- Continuing after death now removes poison, fire, and frozen effects.
- Added continuous movement when holding a swipe.
- Directional buttons are now hidden and disabled while swipe controls are active.
Clearer combat feedback
- Fixed fire, poison, and freeze weapon effects and their combat feedback.
- Added localized messages for elemental effects, resistances, and monster victories.
- Increased status-message display time to 2.5 seconds.
A guide for the dungeon
We also added a player guide on Steam for anyone who wants a few tips before diving back in—or for anyone who is tired of losing a perfectly good run to something they definitely should have seen coming.
Thanks for sticking with this tiny blackjack dungeon crawler for five years. Here is to the next update-a-versary.
